Dr. Vivian A. Medrano is the Director for Student Success at UT San Antonio, School of Nursing where she oversees academic support and peer mentor programming, career readiness initiatives, scholarship administration, summer undergraduate research programs, as well as other student engagement initiatives and events. Previously, she served as Senior Director of Student Success at Oglethorpe University, where she built a holistic Student Success Center that provided academic advising, accessibility services, and learning support to a diverse student population. Dr. Medrano has more than fifteen years of experience in student services and academic advising. She has created and directed mentoring programs and designed department-wide student success coaching and advising plans. She has also produced online student orientations, student planners, and developed advising manuals for advisor training and professional development.
Dr. Medrano has co-authored a book chapter on mentoring as a tool for advisor development through the Global Community for Academic Advising (NACADA). She has also published articles in the Chronicle of Mentoring and Coaching and has presented at the Mentoring Institute, NACADA, and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). Her research interests center on mentoring minoritized populations in their education and career pathways.
Dr. Medrano earned her EdD and MBA degrees from the University of La Verne. She holds a BS in legal studies from Nova Southeastern University. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
