University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill's First-Generation College Celebration
2019 First-Generation College Celebration
Building upon 2018's momentum, the Carolina F1RSTS and Carolina Grad Student F1RSTS have created a two-day event celebraing first-generation undergraduates and graduates.
On November 7, a "Home for the Holidays" skills workshop on how to navigate discussions and dynamics when returning home after being away in college/graduate school, or what it's like if you're not able to go home, will kick off the celebration. This workshop will be led by counselors who also co-facilitate the CAPS First-in-the-family Group.
On November 8, the midday Pit tabling event will happen again as a campus outreach to celebrate first-generation students with new co-sponsorship by Student Life & Leadership. In the evening, a showing of "Unlikely" the documentary, followed by a facilitated discussion led by a few of the first-generation student leaders, will take place as part of the weekly Friday Carolina Union Activities Board-sponsored films in the Carolina Student Union open to all students.
2018 First-Generation College Celebration
On October 30, the Carolina F1RSTS (undergraduate first-gen students) and Carolina Grad Student F1RSTS (graduate and professional first-gen students) kicked off the 2018 First-Generation College Celebration with a jointly sponsored movie night.
The Carolina F1RSTS and Carolina Grad Student F1RSTS came together again on November 8 in the Pit at the FPG Student Union to recognize and celebrate first-generation college students as well as acknowledge the contributions they make to enrich the University of North Carolina community.
