FirstGen Forward welcomes 39 new institutions to national FirstGen Forward Network
New Network Member institutions demonstrate strong commitment to advancing first-generation student success
WASHINGTON, DC (July 14, 2026) - FirstGen Forward, proudly announces the selection of thirty-nine (39) institutions of higher education to the FirstGen Forward Network Class of 2026. These colleges and universities were selected for their demonstrated commitment to improving experiences and advancing the success of first-generation college students.
“We are proud to welcome our newest Network Member institutions to the FirstGen Forward Network,” said Dr. Martina A. Martin, vice president of the FirstGen Forward Network. “This year’s class reflects a growing national momentum—institutions that are not only committed to supporting first-generation students, but are actively aligning strategy, data, and leadership to drive measurable outcomes. Their dedication signals a shift from intention to action, ensuring first-generation students are supported, valued, and positioned to succeed at every stage of their journey.”
The FirstGen Forward Network provides a three-phase framework designed to help institutions scale holistic first-generation student success, transforming the student experience, strengthening academic and co-curricular outcomes, and building inclusive institutional structures. Currently, 503 institutions —including two statewide systems—are engaged in the Network, spanning 48 states and the District of Columbia.
Institutions join the Network through a competitive application process. During the first year, Network Member institutions engage in monthly workshops, peer learning opportunities, and professional development sessions while contributing to a nationwide knowledge-sharing community. Members can progress to Network Leader status and ultimately achieve the Network Champion designation by demonstrating a measurable impact and sustained commitment to the success of first-generation students.
“Being selected as a FirstGen Forward Network Member is both an honor and a call to action,” said Dr. Stephanie J Bannister, President of FirstGen Forward. “These institutions join a growing movement of institutions and professionals who are committed to advancing access, sharing best practices, and driving systemic change to ensure first-generation students succeed. We look forward to seeing the Class of 2026 make a lasting impact.”
The 2026-27 Network Members officially begin their journey during the FirstGen Forward Virtual Kickoff on August 20, 2026. A complete list of the Class of 2026 FirstGen Forward Network Member institutions is included below (institutions listed alphabetically):
